Missouri Mid-South Conference Staff
Rev. Courtney Montgomery Chandler Hired as the Youth Events Coordinator for the Missouri Mid-South Conference!
Beginning January 16, the Rev. Courtney Montgomery Chandler will serve the Missouri Mid-South Conference (MMS) as our Youth Events Coordinator. This is a part-time position for 18 months and will be fully funded by the Western Hills Fund. Rev. Chandler’s responsibilities include:
Coordinate and oversee new youth events in cluster areas of the Missouri Mid-South Conference to strengthen shared youth ministry in these areas including assisting the Kansas-Oklahoma (KO) Conference in shared youth ministry.
Coordinate and oversee ongoing MMS youth events as well as 2018-2019 wider UCC youth events including the West Central Region Youth Event in 2018 and the National Youth Event in 2019.
Develop and maintain a database of all youth leaders and active youth in the MMS conference.
Rev. Chandler is a Disciples of Christ minister, who most recently served as the Minister for Christian Education at Immanuel UCC, Ferguson. She served as Senior Pastor of First Christian Church in Sterling, Illinois, as well as the Minister of Christian Education and Nurture of First Christian Church in Decatur, Georgia. Rev. Chandler graduated from Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Georgia, and received her Master of Divinity degree from McAfee School of Theology at Mercer University. Rev. Chandler is married to the Rev. Patrick Chandler and has 3 children.
The Western Hills Fund was created in 1997 after the sale of Camp Western Hills in the Western Association with the purpose to support youth ministry for youth especially in the Western Association. For the past 20 years, the Western Hills Fund has been used to provide scholarships for youth in the Western Association to attend Camp MoVal. Recently, the MMS Conference Council approved using money from the Western Hills Fund for 18 months in order to hire conference staff so that the legacy of Camp Western Hills could continue to minister to the youth of our conference. As Youth Events Coordinator, Rev. Chandler will travel to cluster areas of the conference in order to minister to our youth.

Mrs. Cindy Birkner Contracted for Youth Ministry Resources in the Missouri Mid-South Conference!
The Missouri Mid-South Conference (MMS) has contracted with Cindy Birkner to provide youth ministry resources for 10 hours a week from January 2 to May 31, 2018. This contracted position will be fully funded by the Western Hills Fund. Mrs. Birkner’s responsibilities will include:
Provide information on planning mission trips and local mission opportunities
Train adult leaders in building community with youth and their care givers
Guide churches with implementing Safe Church practices.
Help find resources for adult leaders for Sunday School and other small group discussions.
Currently, Mrs. Birkner serves as the Director of Youth Ministries at St. John, UCC, in St. Charles, Missouri, where she has been a member since 1993. Mrs. Birkner taught 6th and 7th grade Sunday school for 5 years and has been a confirmation teacher since 2007. She has a Master’s Degree in Corporate Communications. Mrs. Birkner is married to Kevin and they have three children.

Rev. Tyler Connoley, is fifth-generation clergy, so you could say church is in his DNA.
He has spent most of his adult life serving in the church, first as a lay leader and then as
an ordained minister. Tyler loves connecting people, and helping them find their calling,
and has years of experience in group and individual discernment processes. He's a
biblical theologian and storyteller, with a Master of Arts in Religion and a Master of
Divinity, both from Earlham School of Religion. His undergraduate degree is in Business
